Know the good your money does.
The Good Rises Fund
Give with all your heart. Choose like an investor. Watch good rise.
You manage the rest of your money with care: people you trust, evidence before decisions, a statement that shows exactly where you stand. Then you give, and all of that disappears. The Good Rises Fund is a managed giving fund built to end that. It is richer than an investment account ever gets, because the returns here are the good itself.
One
Most good per dollar.
Advanced data and economic analysis, and deep insight into how social organizations work from the inside out.
Two
Watch your giving work.
Your own portal on Good Rises: the flow of funds, the evidence coming back, and the work itself, in pictures, video, and data.
Three
Every result published.
What we predict, printed next to what happens, misses included, at each edition’s close. Accountability, with proof.
Generosity is not the scarce thing. Information is.
Canadians give. What has been missing is not more feeling, but information good enough to deserve the feeling that is already there, and an experience worthy of the person giving.
If you have ever hesitated before giving, you were not being cynical. You were being careful, and you had reasons: money that disappears into generality, stories that could belong to any year and any programme, results nobody ever comes back to show. We think that doubt is reasonable, and that the burden of resolving it belongs to us. Everything below is what we built to answer it.
What the fund gives you
Five things, and how each one works.
Each one leads with what it is worth to you, and what makes it different.
One
Always-on AI, in expert hands.
Experts, working with always-on AI, so your giving is managed as well as the rest of your money.
Our AI never stops working: it monitors the market of organizations and causes, the academic research, the methods, and the measurement itself, so our experts hold a live pulse on where good is being done and how it is best proven. They use it to analyze, compare, and understand, and then they build funds with it: each edition of the Good Rises Fund a small, hand-picked selection of for-impact organizations that the evidence and their judgment say will do the most good per dollar. Every one must meet the eligibility standard first. You read the edition’s mandate before you commit, and we will never tell you what to care about. That is yours.
The Value
The picture is current on the day you give, not on the day someone last looked. Nothing sits in a file waiting for an annual review.
What Makes it Different
Wealthy families have had someone managing their giving for a century. What they have not had is a team of economists and impact-measurement specialists running their own measurement systems, on every organization, continuously. That is what we built, and it is what the fund runs on.
Two
Watch your giving work.
Your own portal: where every dollar is, what it reached, and what changed.
Your own portal, personalized to your giving. Log in and trace the flow and use of every dollar: where your funds are, what stage they are at, which organizations received them, and where in the world they are working. Every update from every organization your money reached arrives in that same place: pictures, video, stories from the field, and performance data on the organizations and on your money. You set the frequency. No extra mail, no follow-up calls, ever. When you want to talk it through, request a call, the same way you would with your financial advisor. Your household can follow it with you, so the people who gave together can see together rather than one person relaying it. And your presence is yours to set: give privately, be known to the givers beside you, or engage with them, changeable any time.
The Value
You can see where your money is, what stage it has reached, which organizations received it, and what came back. The same view you expect from an investment account, for the part of your money you care most about.
What Makes it Different
Most giving ends at the receipt: the money leaves, and what happens next is a newsletter if you are lucky. Ours is built to keep going after the gift, because that is the part you actually wanted to know about.
Three
Measured for maximum social return.
What your gift actually achieved, in plain numbers, published whether or not it flatters us.
Every grant is chosen and sized for the most human flourishing per dollar. Before a dollar moves, we publish what we expect to change, by how much, and the date we will check. When the edition closes its record, we publish what actually happened, including where we fell short.
Want to see how a model actually runs? One of ours, opened up →
The Value
You see what your gift achieved, in numbers you can check: what changed, for how many people, at what cost per person. Not a story chosen because it went well.
What Makes it Different
We write down what we expect before every grant, and publish the result against it afterwards, misses included. A prediction cannot be adjusted once you know the answer, which is the whole reason for writing it first. We also bring back what the people helped say themselves, rather than only what the organization reports.
Four
Run with the discipline of a top fund.
You know how decisions are made before you give, and nothing changes after.
The Good Rises Fund grants in editions, and each edition runs the way disciplined capital runs. A thesis published first: the mandate, where the search will look, and how we assess. The eligibility standard required of every organization, its criteria fixed before the first one is examined. Staged diligence. A concentrated portfolio, deliberately few, so every organization is known deeply, with each grant sized to what it can absorb well. Decisions documented. Expectations written before money moves, results reported against them on schedule.
The Value
You know how every decision will be made before you give a dollar, and the rules do not move afterwards to fit the result.
What Makes it Different
Most giving is organized around raising money: campaigns, appeals, year-ends. The Good Rises Fund is organized around deploying it well: thesis, diligence, portfolio, record. That is the discipline a serious fund runs on, and it is the one we borrowed.
Five
Two institutions behind it, one mission.
The charity governs the money; the company builds the experience. Deliberately separate homes.
Harness Good operates the Good Rises Fund: an independent Canadian research and granting organization that does the searching, the assessing, the selecting, and the monitoring, and governs every dollar and decides every grant. Good Rises is the experience: the platform that makes giving simple and shows you what your giving achieved, built so that what a person gives gets the same care as the rest of their money. Different work, one mission: that the good people intend becomes the good that actually happens.
How we choose
The standard is set before we look, and it does not move once we have.
Most funds pick a portfolio and write the criteria afterwards. We fix the criteria first: every organization must meet the eligibility standard, our bar for what the work achieves and for measuring it honestly. No donation, name, or reputation changes what it requires.
Meeting the standard makes an organization eligible. Which of the eligible ones we back is Harness Good’s judgment, made against published factors, and every admission comes with a decision document signed by our Executive Director with the reasoning and the prediction.
What we weigh, and what disqualifies
How far the money has to travel. The assessment behind the standard. What an organization says when we ask what it last got wrong. And two things no score compensates for: selling donor data, or soliciting the givers this fund introduces, both written into the grant agreement with a remedy attached.
The criteria, the stages, and the factors in full →
A small selection, on purpose.
Each edition admits deliberately few organizations, so every one is known deeply rather than sampled. The cap publishes with the mandate, before we begin.
What we refuse to do to you
Five things the Good Rises Fund will not do, whatever it costs us.
A fund is only as good as what it refuses. These are the refusals that apply to you rather than to the organizations we fund, and they hold whether or not anyone is watching.
Your details, shared with partners.
We will not sell, rent, or hand over your details. The organizations we grant to never receive your name, and they agree in writing not to seek it another way. Becoming a member of Good Rises is how you reach the fund, not how we learn about you.
A score that bends toward what we want to fund.
We cannot move the score. The Good Mark, the Good Score, the measurement technology, and the Good Rises name belong to Good Rises, a related company, and we buy them at fair market value. The Good Rises Fund cannot adjust the score of an organization it would like to fund, and nothing we earn changes with how a grant turns out.
Give before midnight.
No urgency, no deadlines, no countdowns. If a decision only works when you are hurried, it was not a good decision. Take the week.
Causes, ranked against each other.
No exchange rate between causes. We measure what an organization achieves. We do not grade hearts, and we will never tell you what to care about.
The results that flattered us.
When we get it wrong, you hear it from us first. Predictions we missed, published against what we said. Organizations that leave the fund, with the fact and the date, never a story built at their expense. Judgments we would make differently now. This is written into how the Good Rises Fund is governed, not left to whoever is drafting the annual report.
Hold us to it. If you believe we have fallen short of anything on this page, write to us at hello@harnessgood.com. We respond within five business days. The five pledges that cover every gift, not just this fund, are on Protecting you.
The price, in full view
10% of the gift. One number, everything in it.
10%
The research, the measurement, the technology, the payment processing, and the running of the Good Rises Fund, with our actual costs to be published against it every year. Most giving looks cheaper because the costs sit where you cannot see them: paid from separate donor pools, taken as yearly fees while the money waits, or spent inside an organization’s own fundraising overhead. We would rather show you the full cost than a flattering number.
We are not the cheapest, and we are not trying to be. The question worth asking is the one investors already ask: what does a dollar achieve, after all costs? Everything in the Good Rises Fund, the intelligence, the models, the discipline, is built to make that answer the highest it can be. And the cost is built to come down: the models and technology we build are reused edition after edition, and givers who choose to fund our operations directly bring the number down for everyone.
There is no minimum gift. A twenty-dollar gift and a twenty-thousand-dollar gift get the same fund, the same reporting, and the same standard of care. There is no better version of us behind a threshold.
Take part
The Good Rises Fund lives on Good Rises, the platform that runs the giving experience: your portal, your statement, and everything that comes back after the gift. Becoming a member takes a minute and costs nothing, and it is how you give to the fund.
Good Rises will ask you a little about what you care about, and you can decline any of it.
Where the Good Rises Fund stands
Harness Good is a registered Canadian charity,
[BN/REGISTRATION NUMBER]
. Every gift to the Good Rises Fund is receipted, and eligible for a charitable tax credit.
The Good Rises Fund never closes; each granting edition does. A gift joins the edition then open, and you can keep giving. When an edition fills, the next one opens rather than admission getting easier. Gifts are irrevocable, and designations are unrestricted: once given, the allocation decisions are ours to make against the published mandate.
The Good Rises Fund is open to givers outside Canada, and we make no claim about the tax treatment of a gift from outside Canada. Givers in the United States can give now with no US tax receipt, or join the US-launch notification list.
